Pregnancy is one of the most transformative experiences of a woman’s life — and it can also be physically demanding. A prenatal massage in Bali offers expectant mothers a safe, deeply nurturing way to ease the aches, tension, and fatigue that often accompany pregnancy. At Korra Spa in Batu Belig, our therapists are trained in pregnancy-safe techniques that support your body through every trimester.
What Is a Prenatal Massage?
A prenatal massage is a specialised massage designed for pregnant women. Unlike a standard massage, it takes into account the physiological changes of pregnancy — the shift in your centre of gravity, increased pressure on the lower back and hips, fluid retention, and heightened skin sensitivity. Techniques are adapted to be gentle, supportive, and entirely safe for both mother and baby.
At Korra Spa, we use a side-lying position with supportive pillows to ensure your comfort throughout the session. We avoid deep pressure on the abdomen and adjust all techniques based on your trimester and comfort level.
Benefits of Prenatal Massage During Pregnancy
Research consistently shows that regular pregnancy massage offers measurable benefits for expectant mothers. These include:
Relief from Lower Back and Hip Pain
As your belly grows, the lower back bears increasing strain. Prenatal massage targets the muscles of the lower back, glutes, and hips to relieve tension and restore mobility. Many mothers find their posture improves noticeably after just one session.
Reduced Swelling in the Legs and Feet
Oedema — swelling caused by fluid retention — is extremely common during pregnancy, particularly in the legs, ankles, and feet. Gentle lymphatic massage strokes encourage fluid movement and can bring significant relief from that heavy, uncomfortable feeling.
Better Sleep Quality
Pregnancy often disrupts sleep. The deep relaxation response triggered by a prenatal massage can improve sleep quality, reduce nighttime restlessness, and help you feel genuinely rested — something that becomes increasingly precious as the due date approaches.
Reduced Anxiety and Emotional Stress
The hormonal fluctuations of pregnancy can heighten anxiety and mood swings. Massage stimulates the release of serotonin and dopamine while lowering cortisol levels, supporting emotional balance during this significant life transition.
Preparation for Labour
Some studies suggest that regular prenatal massage in the third trimester may support shorter labour and reduce the need for pain intervention. Relaxed, well-supported muscles and reduced tension in the pelvic region can contribute to a smoother birth experience.
Is Prenatal Massage Safe in Bali?
When performed by a trained therapist, prenatal massage is safe from the second trimester onwards. We recommend avoiding massage during the first trimester (weeks 1–12) as a precaution, in line with international prenatal massage guidelines.
Before your session, we conduct a brief consultation to understand your stage of pregnancy, any medical conditions or complications, and your comfort preferences. If you have been advised by your doctor to avoid massage for any reason, please follow that guidance.
What to Expect at Your Prenatal Massage Session at Korra Spa
When you arrive at Korra Spa Batu Belig, you’ll be welcomed into our calm reception area and offered herbal tea or cool water. Your therapist will briefly review your consultation form before guiding you to your private treatment room.
You’ll be carefully positioned on your side using our pregnancy-support cushions, ensuring complete comfort and no pressure on the abdomen. The therapist will work through the back, hips, legs, and shoulders using gentle to medium pressure, adjusting continuously based on your feedback.
We use pregnancy-safe, fragrance-free massage oil as standard — or can incorporate light aromatherapy blends (chamomile, lavender) if you prefer and have no sensitivities.
Sessions typically run 60 or 90 minutes. Most expectant mothers choose 60 minutes, which covers the key tension areas thoroughly without overtiring the body.

Frequently Asked Questions: Prenatal Massage in Bali
How many months pregnant can I be to receive a massage?
We welcome guests from the second trimester (13 weeks) through the third trimester. We do not offer massage during the first trimester as a precaution.
Do I need a doctor’s note for a prenatal massage?
A doctor’s note is not required for a standard, low-risk pregnancy. However, if you have complications such as preeclampsia, placenta previa, or have been placed on restricted activity, please consult your healthcare provider before booking.
Can I get a prenatal massage with a regular therapist?
At Korra Spa, our therapists are specifically trained in prenatal massage techniques. We do not assign standard therapists to prenatal sessions without appropriate training.
Is it safe to have aromatherapy during pregnancy?
Certain essential oils are not recommended during pregnancy. We use only pregnancy-approved oils (chamomile, lavender, neroli) and always check with you before use. By default, we use unscented oil.
Can I book a prenatal massage as part of a couples’ package?
Yes — many couples book a side-by-side session where one partner receives a Balinese massage while the expectant mother receives a prenatal massage. Contact us to arrange a customised couples booking.
What should I wear to a prenatal massage?
We provide comfortable, loose-fitting disposable spa wear. You are welcome to wear your own comfortable clothing as well.
