A professional facial delivers visible results on its own, but how you prepare your skin in the days beforehand influences just how good those results are. A small amount of planning helps your skin respond better to cleansing, exfoliation, and active ingredients. Here is how to get your complexion ready.
In the Days Before
Avoid strong at-home exfoliation, retinoids, or harsh acids for two to three days before a facial. These can leave your skin sensitised, and combining them with professional exfoliation may cause unnecessary irritation. Instead, keep your routine gentle and focus on hydration so your therapist is working with calm, balanced skin.
Stay Out of Strong Sun
Bali sun is intense, and sunburnt or freshly tanned skin is more reactive. Try to avoid prolonged sun exposure in the day or two before your appointment, and always wear sunscreen. If you have caught too much sun, our guide to post-beach skin recovery covers how to soothe it first.
On the Day of Your Facial
Arrive with clean skin if you can, although it is perfectly fine to come as you are since the treatment begins with a thorough cleanse. If you wear makeup, light or none is easiest. Skip strenuous exercise immediately beforehand so your skin is not flushed and sweaty when treatment starts.
Mention Your Skin Concerns
Tell your therapist about breakouts, sensitivity, allergies, or any products you have reacted to. This lets them choose the right approach, whether that is a calming treatment for sensitive skin, a clarifying option for oily skin, or a deeply nourishing anti-aging facial.
What to Avoid Beforehand
Do not book a facial on the same day as a big event if you are new to facials, as some skin types flush or purge slightly afterward. Allow at least a few days between an important occasion and your first treatment. Avoid waxing the same area of the face in the days immediately before, since the skin will already be sensitive.
How to Extend the Results
After your facial, keep your routine simple and gentle for a day or two, drink plenty of water, and protect your skin from the sun. Resist picking at your skin, and let the products your therapist applied do their work. Regular facials, spaced according to your skin type, keep results consistent rather than fleeting.
How Often Should You Book?
Most skin types benefit from a facial every four to six weeks, aligning with the skin’s natural renewal cycle. Your therapist can recommend a rhythm based on your concerns and the Bali climate.
