Staring at a spa menu in Bali can sometimes feel overwhelming. You know you need a massage, but with so many options, how do you choose?

Two of the most popular treatments at Korra Spa (in both our Berawa and Batu Belig locations) are the Traditional Balinese Massage and the Deep Tissue Massage. While both leave you feeling amazing, they serve very different purposes.

Here is a simple guide to help you decide which treatment your body actually needs today.

1. Traditional Balinese Massage: The “Flow” & Relaxation

Balinese massage is an ancient healing therapy that combines gentle stretches, acupressure, and aromatherapy.

How it feels:

The technique uses long, sweeping strokes (effleurage) combined with skin rolling and gentle pressure. It is rhythmic and flows seamlessly from one part of the body to another.

Choose this if:

  • You have Jet Lag: It is excellent for boosting circulation and resetting your body clock after a long flight.
  • You are Stressed: If you want to drift off to sleep and calm your nervous system.
  • It’s your first time: If you are new to massages, this is the perfect gentle introduction.

2. Deep Tissue Massage: The “Fix” & Recovery

Deep Tissue is more technical. It focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles).

How it feels:

The therapist uses slower strokes and more direct pressure using knuckles, elbows, and thumbs. It targets specific “knots” or areas of tension. It might feel “intense” at moments, but it is a “good pain” that releases chronic tightness.

Choose this if:

  • You are a Surfer: Perfect for releasing shoulder and back tension from paddling at Berawa Beach.
  • You worked out hard: If you have DOMS (muscle soreness) from the gym.
  • You have chronic pain: Great for stiff necks (“text neck”) or lower back pain from sitting.

The Quick Comparison

  • Pressure: Balinese is Medium-Firm; Deep Tissue is Firm-Hard.
  • Goal: Balinese is for Relaxation; Deep Tissue is for Recovery.
  • Aftercare: You will feel sleepy after Balinese; you might feel lighter (and looser) after Deep Tissue.

Still Can’t Decide?

You don’t always have to choose! At Korra Spa, our therapists are trained to customize treatments. You can book a Balinese Massage but ask for “extra focus” on your shoulders, or book a Deep Tissue session but ask for lighter pressure on sensitive areas.
